The Ghana Police Service has arrested two persons after intercepting a Ford Transit vehicle containing 692 parcels of suspected Indian hemp at a snap check point at Dawhenya in the Tema Region.
The suspects, identified as Godwin Asigeh and Freeman Amedoku, were arrested at about 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, during an operation by personnel of the Prampram Division.
According to a police situation report, the officers, led by Inspector Jerry Anani and Inspector Frederick Dzemeki, intercepted an Accra-bound Ford Transit vehicle with registration number GT 6140-22 at the Dawhenya snap check.
The vehicle was being driven by Asigeh Godwin, with Amedoku Freeman assisting him.
A search of the vehicle reportedly led to the discovery of an unspecified quantity of parcels suspected to contain Indian hemp, wrapped in rubber.
The suspects, together with the vehicle and the suspected narcotic substance, were subsequently taken to the Devtraco Police Station for further investigation.
Police later counted the suspected narcotic exhibits in the presence of the suspects and recorded a total of 692 pieces wrapped in yellow polythene bags.
Statements were taken from the officers who undertook the arrest, while the two suspects also provided caution statements.
The suspected narcotics have been retained as exhibits, and the vehicle has been impounded as investigations continue.
The two suspects remain in police custody and are expected to face further action in accordance with the law.
Police said the case is being investigated for suspected possession of narcotic substances contrary to Section 37 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019).
