Director of Communications for the United Party (UP), Solomon Owusu, has cautioned the National Security to prepare for violence in the 2028 general elections.
His comment follows the election of Kojo Fosu Boadu, a.k.a Kojo Bamba, as First National Vice Chairman for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Owusu says the NPP knows it has no message and no credibility before Ghanaians and will therefore resort to violence as its only strategy for the polls.
Speaking on the BigIssue segment on the NewDay morning show on TV3 Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Owusu indicated that the posture of the NPP after the internal poll signals a violent approach to the next general election.
“Let me admonish the National Security of this country with all agencies under it that the election of Bamba must let them wake up. They must not take it for granted,” he stated, urging the security architecture to stay alert.
“They must fully prepare and put their arsenals on the grounds because it’s a party that knows that they have no message, they have no credibility for the people so the only reasonable thing to do in election 2028 is to unleash violence,” he added.
He said the development calls for National Security and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to work assiduously to track the deeds of the party.
According to him, the development also has the potential of influencing the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to respond with radical elements of its own.
“It also has a potential of even influencing the NDC leadership. ‘You have given us radicals, we’ll also bring radicals’. You remember the days of ‘Bamba Boys, Azorka Boys, the Invincible Forces’ here and there. It’s the reason we promulgated the Vigilantism Act,” he stated.
