The Minister for Foreign Affairs has announced that Parliament will soon consider an appropriate fee for the Mobile Passport Application Centre.
The Mobile Passport Application Centre initiative is expected to bring services closer to institutions and individual applicants who desire to have their biodata captured in the comfort of their own locations.
The initiative is expected to become a permanent feature of passport application services under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We have noticed that the Mobile Passport Application Centres are becoming quite popular and we have to purchase more and revamp some of our equipment for capturing data and all that.
“So, we are going to make provision for that in the 2027 budget so that we will have more of these passport application centres.
“We are going to go to Parliament and have a special fee for it, so that we are going to really carry out these mobile services as part of our full mandate. It is going to now become a permanent feature which is part of our service,” he stated.
Speaking to staff at the Ashanti Regional Passport Application Centre (PAC) on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as part of an official working visit, Ablakwa indicated that the initiative is an innovative measure aimed at generating revenue for new developments and renovations across PACs in the country.
He highlighted that data points to a surge in revenue due to the new innovations compared to previous years.
Okudzeto Ablakwa noted that more needs to be done to improve passport service delivery to the public.
“So, if you want our service at the comfort of your homes, we are going to go to Parliament. We will have new fees and charges. We will discuss a fee with Parliament. You have to pay a premium because it is very convenient, risk-free and we come to you.
“We will make sure that you are going to pay some good money so that it will help our IGF to help us maintain our properties and facilities across the country,” he added.
