An Accra High Court has sentenced 106 foreigners into prison custody illegally entering Ghana, highlighting the government’s strict enforcement of immigration laws.

Fifty-five (55) of the accused were handed 28-day prison sentences, with the remaining 51 were each sentenced to four weeks imprisonment after they all pleaded guilty to charges of illegal entry.

The court further ordered that the convicts be deported to their respective home countries after completing their sentences.

The case dates back to October 25, 2025, when the accused first appeared before the court. On March 12, 2026, they formally pleaded guilty to the charges.

According to police investigations, on October 7, 2025, intelligence reports indicated that over 100 foreign nationals were seen around Kuntunse Satellite in Accra under suspicious circumstances where responding officers discovered the individuals residing in a local house.

The suspects refused disclosure of their true identities during interrogation and were subsequently arrested and taken to the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters for further investigation.

Further inquiries established that the accused were nationals of neighbouring francophone countries who had entered Ghana between January and October 2025. None had reported to the nearest Immigration Office, produced travel documents, or completed the prescribed legal forms.

It was confirmed by authorities that none of the convicted individuals possessed legal permits to remain or work in Ghana, prompting the court’s decision to impose custodial sentences followed by deportation.
