Tamale Central legislator, Murtala Mohammed, has blamed politicians largely for the ensuing milieu in Bawku and its environs.

According to him, “depending on which political party is in power, they choose a side which will favour them” adding that they resort to taking sides because of “political expediency.”

“The Bawku conflict is hugely influenced by politicians for political expediency and depending on which political party is in power, they choose a side that will favour them,” he told Alfred Ocansey on TV3’s the Key Points Saturday, February 25, 2023.

The fracas in Bawku has been renewed for some time now following the enskinment of a new Naba at Bawku by the Nayiri in Mamprugu.

Government condemned the enskinment saying it is illegal, and ordered the new Naba and the Nayiri to be arrested.

The military stormed the community at dawn to get the two chiefs arrested but couldn’t find them.

The youth upon hearing the move became agitated and expressed their dissatisfaction by storming the streets, burnt tyres and destroyed bill boards of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
