The Black Starlets have booked a place in the final of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championships following a 2-0 win over Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets on Tuesday.

Two first-half goals kind courtesy Michael Awuli and Robinho Yao Gavi punched the final ticket for the national U-17 men’s soccer team.

It was a win to savour as it also guarantees Prosper Narteh Ogum’s side a place in next year’s U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Morocco.

The Nigerians had made the semi-finals after topping Group A.

They had four players in the Group Stage Best XI, the highest for any of the teams.

Therefore, they were tipped as favourites to make the final as Ghana had to manage a win in their final group game over Niger in order to scrape through.

However, the Ghanaians made their intentions clear right from the blast of the referee’s whistle.

Awuli’s superb finish in the 21st minute opened the scoring before Gavi made it two.

No more goals were scored as Ghana edged Nigeria.

The Starlets will face Group A opponents and hosts Ivory Coast in the final on Friday.

The Young Elephants, who beat Ghana 3-0 in the group phase, dispatched Burkina Faso 2-1 in the first semi-final game earlier in the day.

Both Burkina Faso and Nigeria will fight for Bronze.
