Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Charles Bismark Asampong Taylor has minced no words about his call for the sacking of current coach Prosper Nartey Ogum.

He said for the record champions of the Ghana Premier League to be saved, coach Ogum must be offloaded.

He poured these sentiments out on Agoro Fie on Onua TV in an exclusive interview with Alfred Takyi Mensah.

Speaking on the woes of the 24-time league champions, Charles Taylor said the club must part ways with coach Ogum in order to bounce back.

“They have to sack him. If they do that the team will do well,” he said on Friday, April 12.

Asante Kotoko have gone six matches without a win, drawing only once at Bechem United and losing three successive home games, the latest 2-1 to Nsoatreman FC.

The club is 10th on the league log with 33 points.

Many have called for the sacking of the coach but a recent emergency meeting with the Interim Management Committee (IMC) appears to have extended the grace period for him and the technical team.

Coach Ogum joined the Porcupine Warriors in the 2021/22 season from West African Football Academy (WAFA).

After leading Asante Kotoko to their 24th league title, he left the side to pursue other interests.

He, however, returned for the 2023/24 league and after a promising first round, the fortunes of the club seem to be on a nosedive.

Charles Taylor insists Coach Ogum did not have a good mindset returning to the club.

“[Coach Ogum]’s aim upon returning was not that he wanted something for the club,” the former Black Stars player said, justifying that the coach only achieved a lot in the 2021/22 season because the players were bought by then Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nana Yaw Amponsah.

He cited how coach Ogum has deployed some of the players in wrong positions, mentioning Justice Blay.

“Ogum doesn’t even know how to speak to the players,” Taylor, who also played for archrivals Hearts of Oak, critiqued.

Asante Kotoko’s next game will be against Dreams FC in a match dubbed ‘Game of the Strugglers’ as the CAF Confederation Cup campaigners are wallowing in the relegation zone.
