The flagbearer of the NPP Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that with effect from December 1, dialysis will be free for all patients in the country.
Dr Bawumia said treatment for kidney disease will be covered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
He said this when he addressed stakeholders at Suame as part of his tour of the Ashanti Region on November 10.
“The National Health Insurance Scheme, we have revamped it. We have invested more funds into it. Today, we are taking care of sickle cell disease, childhood cancer has been catered for.”
“Recently a lot of people have been getting kidney problems and the dialysis is too expensive so many people cannot pay for the kidney dialysis.”
” Six months ago, we piloted to see whether the National Health Insurance Scheme can foot the bill, We have done the pilot six months now for people over 60 and under 18.”
” We have worked well, so from December 1 all kidney dialysis patients will be catered for free under the National Health Insurance Scheme” Dr Bawumia declared.
