The Kaneshie District Court has adjourned the case involving the alleged murder of 38-year-old Immigration Officer, Stephen King Amoah, to August 8, 2025.

The adjournment was announced during proceedings on Thursday, July 24, 2025. The prime suspect remains in custody as police investigations continue.

The case has been transferred from the Kwabenya Circuit Court to the Kaneshie District Court, which has broader jurisdiction because it has been reclassified as a murder case as against a kidnapping case.

Amoah was reported missing on July 3 after he left home to meet a friend at Ashongman Estate. He was later found dead.

A key suspect, Bright Aweh—believed to be the last person Amoah contacted before his disappearance—has been arrested and remains in custody pending further investigations.

On Wednesday, July 9, the burnt body of a male was discovered in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area, opposite Comet Estate in Accra. Despite the severe burns, the body was identified as Amoah’s by family members at the Police Hospital morgue.

Investigators disclosed that during interrogation, Aweh admitted to handing over GHS500,000 to Amoah, allegedly for debt repayment and safekeeping. However, he failed to clearly explain the source of the money and provided conflicting accounts, raising suspicions about his role in the officer’s death.

Amoah’s family revealed that on the evening of his disappearance, he had informed his wife that he was meeting a friend who owed him GHS200,000. Hours later, his wife received a message from his phone claiming he had returned home safely with the money. Sensing something was wrong, she asked Amoah’s brother to check on him, only for them to find the house empty and his phone switched off.

Subsequent attempts to locate him were unsuccessful until the discovery of the body.

In a twist, Aweh allegedly admitted not only to repaying the GHS200,000 debt but also to giving an additional GHS300,000 to Amoah. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The Ghana Police Service is appealing to the public for any information that may assist in the ongoing investigation. Members of the public are encouraged to contact the police via 18555, 192, or report to the nearest police station.

The family of the late Stephen Amoah has also urged Ghanaians to support the call for justice, while expressing hope for swift and transparent investigative action.
