For a gentleman, dressing well is not always about following the latest fashion trends. Sometimes, it is the small details, from the color of his socks to the choice of cufflinks that complete the look.
According to etiquette coach Ms Nancy, a gentleman’s appearance should be intentional, with certain classic accessories helping to create a polished and sophisticated image.
Speaking on TV3’s The Afternoon Show on Monday, October 5, 2026, Ms Nancy noted that even something as simple as socks can make a difference, stressing that a gentleman’s socks should ideally match the color of his trousers.
She also highlighted the importance of cufflinks, explaining that the choice should depend on the occasion, as some are more appropriate for the workplace while others are better suited for social events.
And while suspenders may no longer be at the centre of modern fashion, Ms Nancy believes they remain a strong style choice for gentlemen who know how to wear them.
Pairing suspenders with a tie, she noted, can create a classy and distinctly gentlemanly appearance.
“It is not necessarily a fashionable thing… it is, in fact, a stylish thing,” she said.
For Ms Nancy, suspenders are also versatile enough to work across different settings, from formal occasions to social events, and can complement different body types.
Ultimately, she believes timeless style is less about chasing what is currently trending and more about knowing what works, wearing it confidently and maintaining a consistent, polished appearance.
