The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has banned Ghana Premier League side Real Tamale United (RTU) indefinitely from using the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

The ban follows Wednesday’s attack on match officials by fans of the club.

It was during an outstanding Ghana Premier League game between RTU and champions Medeama SC. It ended 1-0 in favour of the home side.

But during the break, irate fans of RTU pelted water at match officials, leading to the collapse of the Match Commissioner, Charles Darkwa.

The decision of the Council is in accordance with Article 14(2) of the GFA Premier League Regulations.

“This order is, however, without prejudice to the determination of the case pending before the Disciplinary Committee who have been charged to hear the case in accordance with the relevant regulations,” the Association wrote on its website on Friday, January 5.

“The GFA notes the unacceptable conduct the supporters of the home team, RTU and condemns same, without any reservations, the violations of the provisions of the GFA the Safety and Security Regulations and the Premier League Regulations which took place at the match.”

The Competitions Department has been tasked to determine a venue for the club.

Meanwhile, the Association’s prosecutors have also been charged to study all the video evidence and the match reports in order to prefer appropriate charges immediately and for the Disciplinary Committee to sit on this matter expeditiously.

RTU officials have also been asked to assist the police “to cause the arrest of the persons involved in this attack on the match officials, without fail, in accordance with the promise given by the clubs to the Inspector General of Police in our engagement with the leadership of the Ghana Police Service”.
