The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is joining the nation mourn the passing of eight distinguished Ghanaians who lost their lives in a helicopter crash near Adansi-Akrofuom on Wednesday, August 6.
The flight was en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region for a ceremony.
Among the dead were two ministers of state – Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
In a statement issued following the sad incident, the GFA expressed profound sorrow, condoling the President, John Dramani Mahama, the government and families of the victims.
“The GFA mourns the nation’s collective grief and pays tribute to the dedication and service of these gallant men who perished in the line of duty.
“The GFA’s Executive Council and the entire football community join the nation in mourning this immense loss and stand in solidarity with the bereaved families during this difficult time,” the statement concluded.
