The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced, on behalf of the Ministry of Health, that certain parts of the country are recording increased cases of seasonal influenza.

In a statement issued by the GHS on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, it said “the cases have been confirmed as Influenza A strains H3N2 and H1N1, which are part of the seasonal flu viruses.”

According to the statement, “high cases have been reported in the Greater Accra Region, Central, Bono, and Eastern Regions.”

It, nonetheless, stated that the increasing cases have been reported at a time when the country usually experiences flu, particularly during the cooler months.

Providing further education on the virus’ mode of transmission, which is mainly through respiratory droplets from an infected person – coughing, sneezing, talking, and touching contaminated surfaces, the statement added that “sudden onset of fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, headache, fatigue”, among others, are symptoms.

“High risk settings are crowded environments such as schools, dormitories, transport hubs, and markets for rapid spread,” the statement added.
