IMANI Africa’s latest Public Understanding and Literacy for Sentiment and Election (PULSE) analysis has revealed that Ghanaians are generally shifting from political personalities to performance.

The latest edition, which is the report for the month of May 2026, according to IMANI, has more Ghanaians gearing towards governance performance, policy outcomes, and accountability.

The May 2026 Sentiment Analysis Report analysed 10,000 mentions across Facebook, X, TikTok, YouTube, podcasts, web sources, news feeds, and other digital platforms, revealing that citizens are now prioritising economic management, international engagements, policy delivery and political preparedness in their political discussions.

According to the analysis, an overall sentiment score of -0.01, indicating what the report describes as an almost perfectly neutral public mood was recorded.

Also, policy-related discourse accounted for 78.2% of classified political conversations, making governance issues the dominant focus of online engagement for the period.

“Rather than asking who they support, citizens appeared to be asking whether leaders can deliver, whether promises have been fulfilled, and whether competing political actors possess the credibility required to address future challenges,” the report stated in some parts.

Also among the most significant drivers of public engagement within the month, per the report, were infrastructure delivery and accountability.

There were also discussions on economic credibility and accountability linked to the country’s Extended Credit Facility with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

During the second half of May, many conversations of Ghanaians online, per the report, focused on foreign policy and international engagement, while while conversations about opposition rebuilding and political preparedness increasingly influenced discussions about future elections.

In its conclusion, the IMANI-PULSE indicated that Ghana’s digital political space is becoming more issue-driven, with citizens focusing on leadership performance and governance outcomes rather than partisan loyalty.

Ghanaians are now demanding for accountability effective economic management and the delivery of campaign promises according to the report.
