Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have successfully retrieved the body of an unsconscious mason who as trapped in a well at Asokwa, a community near the District Assembly in Abura Dunkwa in the Central Region.
According to the GNFS, a distress call was received at approximately 7:10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, reporting that a person was trapped inside a well and required immediate assistance.
In response, a seven-member rescue team from the Abura Dunkwa Fire Station, led by Assistant Divisional Officer II (ADO II) Louis Afful, was dispatched to the scene.
The team arrived at about 7:55 a.m. and was later reinforced by ADO I Jeffery Ampiah and Station Officer I (SO I) Morgan to support the rescue operation.

The victim, identified as Kwesi Salifu, was reportedly carrying out masonry work inside the well when he encountered difficulties.
Preliminary information gathered from eyewitnesses and the owner of the site, Mr. Henry Duker, indicated that the victim experienced breathing difficulties due to inadequate oxygen levels within the well.
According to the account, Mr. Salifu attempted to climb out after feeling unwell but became overwhelmed by the lack of oxygen, lost consciousness and fell back into the well.

The rescue team immediately commenced operations upon arrival and successfully retrieved the unconscious victim from the well.
Following the rescue, the victim was handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further action and investigations into the incident.
