All Ghana Premier League clubs have agreed to an enhanced matchday security protocols, which will be in force upon the resumption of the 2024/25 season.

The league was suspended earlier this week following the stabbing to death of an Asante Kotoko fan after their 0-1 loss to Nsoatreman FC at the Prof Amoah Koramansah II Park in Nsoatre.

The Matchday 19 game was marred by a brawl involving players of both sides, forcing referee George Vormawor to send off Justice Blay, Mohammed Camara, of Asante Kotoko, and Stephen Diyou of Nsoatreman FC.

At a meeting between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and all clubs in the elite division on Thursday, a decision to put in place enhanced measures at the various venues was taken.

“These enhanced protocols will form the basis of an Executive Council meeting of the GFA on Friday, February 7, 2025 after which the comprehensive guidelines shall be published ahead of the resumption of the premier league season,” a joint statement issued by the clubs after the meeting said.

They have pledged to work hand-in-hand with the FA, security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that those responsible for matchday violence are brought to book.

The clubs condemned the tragic incident at Nsoatre last Sunday, promising solidarity for the family of the deceased, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.

“As GPL clubs, we are committed to promoting fair play, sportsmanship, and respect for the game, its officials, and spectators.

“We will not tolerate any form of hooliganism, violence, or intimidation at our match centers.”
