John Dramani Mahama has said his administration is open to dissenting views and will embrace criticism from the public to shape their governance.
He has intimated that his outfit is open to ideas and criticisms and will not sp onsor thugs to go after people who will scrutinise the deeds of his leadership.
The President says he will not supervise an administration where people who criticise them will be subjected to threats, assuring the media, the clergy and other stakeholders of the free will to put the government on its toes.
Mahama has reemphasised the need to welcome criticism as a key tool for effective democracy, saying that is what will shape the delivery of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) social contract with Ghanaians.
The President, during his remarks at a courtesy call on him at the Flagstaff House by the Institute of Public Relations Wednesday, January 22, 2025, said they will look at how best they can turn the criticisms of people around for the benefit of the administration and Ghanaians as a whole, instead of launching an attack.
“The government I lead is not an intolerant government and if people speak and criticise us, we are not going to harass them and haunt them and give them threatening phone calls and so I believe that the church can speak freely, the media can speak freely and we’ll take it as a positive instrument for correcting whatever they’re referring to,” he indicated.
The President also hinted of relocating the Information Services Department to the presidency for effective delivering, highlighting the need to adopt modern means of information delivery to communicate activities of the government to the public.
