The Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has explained the recreation sector of the new ministry created by the incumbent government.

The Mahama-led administration decoupled the long-held twin sector of youth and sports to create the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, on one hand, and the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, on the other hand.

The Buem Member of Parliament (MP) was consequently nominated for the Sports and Recreation Ministry.

Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament for his vetting on Thursday, January 30, Kofi Adams explained the concept of recreation as part of the slightly new ministry.

“I’ve always believed that a very healthy nation will be highly productive and one way of being healthy is being active and so we are going to promote a lot of very active lifestyle in all our communities and to encourage many persons,” he told members of the Committee after the question from the MP of Nsawam-Adoagyir Constituency, Frank Annoh-Dompreh.

“I want to help to reduce our health bill by making sure that we are very active up to the very minimal level,” he added.

He has promised to meet all stakeholders to ensure that this objective as espoused by President John Dramani Mahama comes to fruition when he is approved.
