Award-winning Ghanaian singer and songwriter Akwaboah has revealed that when he wrote his first major hit, Daa Ke Daa, in 2009, financial gain was far from his mind.
Reflecting on the early days of his songwriting journey, on Tv3, Afternoon Show on February 19, monitored by Entertainment Journalist, Joseph Owusu Worae, the celebrated musician said his focus was always on passion, not profit.
“The very first song that I wrote, Daa Ke Daa (2009), I wasn’t thinking business. I just wanted to enjoy whatever came with it,” he shared.
The song, recorded and performed by Becca, became an instant nationwide hit, earning Akwaboah recognition as one of Ghana’s most talented songwriters. Its success marked a turning point in his career and opened doors to collaborations with some of the country’s biggest musical acts.
Since then, Akwaboah has built an impressive portfolio, composing, co-writing, and producing songs for numerous top Ghanaian artistes across both secular and gospel music. His credits include Sarkodie, notably on the Mary album — Efya (Best in Me), and ASP Kofi Sarpong, among others.

However, unlike when he started, the singer says his approach has evolved. Today, he treats writing songs for other artistes strictly as business.
