Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC are out of contention for qualification to the knock-out round of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League after Tanzania’s Young Africans SC beat Algeria’s CR Belouizdad 4-0 on Saturday.

The Ghanaians were hoping for at least a draw in the game to stand a chance of making it to the next round of the elite inter-club competition ahead of the final game against the Algerians on Friday, March 1.

Medeama SC had lost 0-1 at home to champions Al Ahly on Friday, consigning them to the bottom of the group.

But with a final game against CR Belouizdad in the books, a favourable result at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Saturday would have boosted hopes of survival for the Yellow and Mauves.

Unfortunately, the Tanzanians secured the much-needed win to go second in Group D with 8 points, just behind Ahly with 9 points.

They will travel to Egypt in the final game on Friday while Medeama go to Algeria to play CR Belouizdad, whose head-to-head record against Yanga disadvantages them even if they beat the Ghanaians by a wide margin.
