Ghana Premier League champions Medeama Sporting Club were beaten 3-0 by African champions Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League on Saturday, November 25.

The match, played at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo, was the Group D opener for the two sides in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League.

The Ghanaians were able to hold their own against the record African champions at least in the first half, which ended goalless.

However, after an hour of play, the inexperience of the Mauves and Yellows became glaring as the Egyptians capitalised on the slump of the Ghanaians to open the score through Mahmoud Kahraba.

Less than 10 minutes later, Hussein El Shahat doubled the lead for the defending champions with substitute Salah Mohsen wrapping up victory in the 88th minute.

The win takes Al Ahly to the top of Group D.

Medeama SC are third in the group.

They will host second-placed CR Belouizdad of Algeria in their second game on Friday, December 1.

The Algerians also scored 3 unanswered goals in their opener against Yanga of Tanzania.
