A 60th minute penalty by Enock Morrison gave beleaguered Asante Kotoko a 1-0 win over Ghana Premier League leaders FC Samartex 1996 on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors went into the Matchday 27 home game under pressure from fans following a wjnless run in the last three games at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

They had lost to 2-1 to Nsoatreman FC in their last home game.

Before the match against FC Samartex, the technical team had held a meeting with the life patron of the club, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He had charged the technical team to turn its fortunes around to keep him investing in the club.

He had announced meeting the playing body after Sunday’s game.

After a goalless first-half, an infringement inside the box in the 60th minute gave the 11th-ranked side the opportunity to take the lead.

And Morrison stepped up to convert for his side, putting them in the lead for the first time in as many games.

The score stayed the same, giving the Warriors all three points.

The win takes them back to the 10th position on the table.

Samartex maintain their lead by the results as second-placed Nations FC also lost heavily to Heart of Lions.

Asante Kotoko’s next game will be away to champions Medeama SC on Saturday, April 27.
