National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joshua Akamba, has questioned the legitimacy of the Ghana Police Service to declare some 16 members of the party wanted.
Mr. Akamba says it is only the law court that can declare someone wanted “so during the weekend, which court gave the police green light to declare the said 16 suspects who were allegedly involved in the disturbances at the just ended NDC Youth and Women organizers congress at Cape Coast wanted?”
Speaking on Akoma FM’s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma Monday, December 12, 2022, Mr. Akamba told host of the show, Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin, that “if for any reason the police really wanted the head of the said suspects, they would have easily access them from the NDC executives but declaring them wanted on weekend I doubt they really sought court order before coming up with such huge announcement.”
Some 16 persons were declared wanted following some violent disturbances at the 10th National Youth and Women’s Congress of the NDC held in Cape Coast in the Central Region on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
The police have subsequently released photographs of the 16 wanted persons extracted from the police specific-footages for the public to assist in identifying them with a bounty of GH¢10,000 for persons who would aid their identification and arrest.
But the NDC National Organizer says the police didn’t exhaust all the appropriate legal processes before declaring the 16 suspects wanted, describing the approach as populist.
