An NDC youth activist, Barimah Asamoah, has criticized Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande’s recent media appearances, describing some of his public comments as unnecessary and potentially damaging to the image of the party.

According to Barimah Asamoah, Mr. Gbande’s remarks on Onua TV on May 11, where he alleged that some government appointees have failed to support grassroots members of the NDC, were capable of creating tension within the party hierarchy.

He was of the view that since Mr. Gbande is also a government appointee, he should equally account for how many grassroots supporters he has personally assisted since the NDC assumed office.

Barimah Asamoah insisted that leadership must lead by example before publicly criticizing others, adding that public attacks and disclosures could weaken confidence among party supporters and floating voters.

He further proposed that all government appointees should publicly disclose the level of support they have extended to grassroots members to demonstrate their commitment and solidarity with the base of the party.

The NDC youth activist also described his comment as harmful to internal party cohesion and likely to expose the NDC to unnecessary public criticism.

According to him, issues involving government appointees and their relationship with the grassroots should be handled discreetly by the leadership of the party instead of being discussed openly on national television.

Barimah Asamoah further recalled previous comments allegedly made by Mr. Gbande suggesting that government allocates huge sums of money to constituencies to manage party activities, insisting that such statements could generate public dissatisfaction and controversy.

He therefore called on the leadership of the NDC to caution Mustapha Gbande and encourage restraint in public communication to protect the unity, discipline, and image of the governing party.
