‘Dumsor’ has been resolved and will not return as said by President Akufo-Addo during the May Day event in Accra Wednesday, May 01, 2024, does not mean Ghanaians will not experience power outages again.

A Communications Team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who is advancing this course says power outages, otherwise know as dumsor, has been with Ghanaians since time immemorial.

According to him, before the days of dumsor in Mahama’s era, there were instances where power outages occurred due to some challenges. The President’s statement therefore, did not mean such times were gone for good.

Kingsley Amoakwa-Boadu, a law lecturer and member of the NPP Communications Team had defended that the President has admitted that there were challenges and measures are in place to resolve them.

He told Alfred Ocansey on TV3 Saturday, May 04, 2024, that what the President said means steps were being taken to address the issue and not that Ghanaians will not experience power outage again.

“So what the President said is that, the President extended his heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians for their patience and understanding during the recent temporary challenges. It does not mean that we do not admit that there are no challenges. Indeed, even before there was dumsor, there are incidents where it rains and there’s a power outage.

“And so you cannot say that because he says something and there’s some power outage, then there is dumsor. He said, we will not return to dumsor. When it comes to power outages, people experience it themselves. When he’s saying that we will not return, it means that we are taking steps to solve it.

“It does not mean that in your locality, you may not experience dumsor. I mean, we all live in Ghana. Let’s be frank with the people of Ghana. He said that we are taking steps and so let’s treat that as power outages that occur on the normal ramp. Now, if the days going ahead, it becomes the same as it used to be, then we have a cause,” he explained.

His comments were on the back of Sammy Gyamfi’s comment on the same show that the President and the entire government “were a bunch of liars” for telling Ghanaians dumsor was over when there actually wasn’t.

He said the ECG’s statement citing rainstorm as the cause of the load-shedding on the day the President made the statement was a lie told to justify the lie the President earlier told.
