The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has assured members of the New Patriotic Party, all stakeholders and the general public that the Police Service is ready to provide the needed security required at the upcoming presidential primary of the party Saturday, November 4, 2023.

The IGP is confident the police will work to the satisfaction of all stakeholders in the upcoming exercise.

Speaking at a meeting with the Election Committee of the party Thursday, October 26, 2023, Dr. Akuffo Dampare noted the Service needed the cooperation of everyone to play their role accordingly for a fruitful process in the interest of all parties.

“…Having said that we want to assure you that on the 4 we are going to give you an overdose of security and it will be possible. All what we require from you is to support us for each and everyone of us to play his or her role and then with that we will be able to ensure that the police, the EC will be able to do their work and all the people who will be voting across the country will also come out freely, willingly to vote, and all the agents will also do what they are supposed to do and all of us will finish that process and all of us will be winners at the level of the party, at the level of the country and also at the level of the continent,” Dr. Dampare assured.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong speaking at the same function asked the Ghana Police Service to without fear or favour, execute their mandate professionally as they always do during the election.

The General Secretary says he has trust in the Service likewise the Electoral Commission to do their work professionally as they did during the party’s special delegates’ conference held on August 26, 2023.

Speaking at a meeting between leadership of the party, the Electoral Commission, the Ghana Police Service and the Election Committee of the NPP, Mr. Kodua Frimpong said the party was ready to cooperate with the two institutions to effectively carry out the exercise.

He commended the EC and the police for doing a great job at the first phase of the party’s presidential primary and said they look forward for an improved delivery of duty.

“Look at it without fear or favour and do your work as you professionally always do. You have our full support as a party and the Electoral Commission likewise”

“All of us are going to follow the details as indicated by the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Police Service. On the 26th of August, the respective institutions; the Electoral Commission and the Ghana police Service did a yeoman’s job and we are looking forward to even better what happened on August 26,” he indicated.

Meanwhile, he admitted there were some shortfalls during the last exercise and assured the agencies of the party’s support to ensure any challenges are rectified.

“I must admit that there were certain bits of infractions on 26th of August and we are hoping that come November 4, these things will not happen. Mr. IGP and your team, you have absolute support of the party on that day,” he stated.

Four persons are contesting the flag bearer position of the ruling New Patriotic Party including vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central lawmaker, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former Agric Minister, and Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former MP for Mampong.
