Former Minister of Trade and former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahir (K.T.) Hammond, has slammed NPP presidential aspirants who have made it a habit to brag about their wealth to party members, as well as over state their financial contributions to the party.
Addressing part faithful on Wednesday September 10, 2025, in Adansi Asokwa, during former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s tour of the Ashanti Region, KT Hammond described such people seeking to lead the NPP as “latter day braggarts,” stating that while they “keep bragging” about their riches, the poor in the party will “keep their support for Bawumia.”
The former MP said such braggarts, who insult fellow party members with their wealth, have no morals to lead the NPP, because of their disrespectful posture.
“If they want to turn this party into the rich versus the poor, then we want to tell them that we the poor who are in the majority are for Dr. Bawumia,” KT Hammond said.
“When we wanted money to build the party, where were all these people who are now bragging and insulting all of us with their money?”
“In the 90s when we needed money to build the party, where were they? The party was so broke prior to the 2000 election, where were all these people?”
KT Hammond recalled that it took the toil and resources of so many party stalwarts to build the NPP into a formidable winning machine, for the ”braggarts” to come and make so much money in government, and then turn around to insult party members.
“Many of our stalwarts dedicated themselves and committed their resources to make the NPP formidable and victorious which enabled us to form a government. Where were all these braggarts?” he asked.
“All these noisemakers now bragging that they have money and they have made financial contributions to the NPP more than anyone were nowhere to be found when people were making sacrifices to build the NPP.”
“So many people who were there and made contributions and sacrifices during those difficult period don’t go around bragging so when you meet those braggarts ask them where were they.”
“Today, thanks to those sacrifices, some people have made enough money in government and all they do is to insult and disrespect those of us in the party who are poor.”
“Yes we accept we are poor and those of us who are not rich will support Dr Bawumia, because he has what it takes to lead this party to victory. He is not as rich as those bragging but he has what it takes to lead this party as its so clear.
“Those of us in this zone, Adansi Asokwa also associate with him because we are also not rich,” he added.
