Nana Ohene Ntow, special policy advisor to Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, the founder of Movement for Change, has said that building an economy is not about giving slogans.
According to him, era of giving slogans to policies is outdated in modern democracy, indicating that what a better government does is to implement policies impact the lives of the people without necessarily giving it a slogan.
Nana Ohene Ntow, referring to John Mahama’s 24-hour economy indicated that implementing Alan Kyerematen’s Great Transformational Plan (GTP) will automatically make the working environment provide room for an all day and night shift which will drastically reduce unemployment.
Speaking on the KeyPoints on TV3 Saturday, September 07, 2024, Ohene Ntow indicated that a complete roll out of the GTP will eradicate the galamsey menace and automatically bring a 24-hour economy since work will be in abundance.
“If you take Alan Kyerematen’s Great Transformational Plan (GTP) and you implement the clusters that he has mentioned on economy, agriculture, tourism, we’ll probably will have a 27-hour or 30-hour economy. You don’t need to give it a slogan. Just implement. Something that will give agriculture, industry, manufacturing, exports around,” he stated.
He also explained that the promise from both the NPP and NDC to scrap certain taxes without providing how they are going to fill in the gap shows they do not know what they are about.
Ohene Ntow explains that scraping a particular tax component denies the government some revenue, and until such a thing would be done, there should be an alternative source of revenue that will not provide the nuisance the original one is providing the payers.
He says the implementation of the GTP, will also provide the needed revenue and better tax avenue for the government, which will make the scraping of certain nuisance taxes reasonable.
“Something that you can use as a basis to say ‘I’ll remove this tax’ because when you remove a particular tax, you’re denying the government of revenue. But you have shown that as for this avenue for raising revenue, it’s a nuisance so let me block it and open a new one. When you do these things and you go and tell the farmer that don’t cut down your cocoa trees”, he said they will listen since they know they will get value for their produce and also be relieved of paying nuisance taxes.
