Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo has explained that Deputy Captain Thomas Teye Partey wanted to join the latest squad but he had to decline that request.
“I made it quite clear to him, he wanted to come, that’s the first thing, but I made it clear why he is not coming.
“Like I said it is confidential. It is difficult for me to mention all the things. It’s like that and we have to move on.”
He, however, indicated that the team is still open and “so we are hoping for him to return”.
The gaffer announced, during a press conference at the GFA Secretariat, that his new captain will be Jordan Ayew of Leicester City for the remaining games.
Partey sat out last month’s qualifiers against Sudan, citing ill-health.
Despite being named as part of the squad, the Arsenal man failed to travel to Ghana for the tie.
He, however, played the entire 90 minutes for the Gunners in their 2-0 loss to AFC Bournemouth a few days later and the 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League.
He also featured in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool.
