The Head of Corporate Communications for the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC), Ernest Owusu-Bempah Bonsu, has urged for a thorough investigation into the “anything can happen” statement made by former Interior Minister, Kwesi Ahwoi.

According to Owusu-Bempah, Ahwoi did not speak in a vacuum when he confidently told running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, that she should prepare to be President as anything can happen, “just as President Mills had to give way for John Mahama.”

Owusu-Bempah explains Ahwoi is a core member of the NDC and knows the happenings in the party, and hence was only referencing a history of Ghana, particularly of the death of late former President John Evans Atta-Mills while in office.

“We need to investigate this, the implications of Ahwoi’s statement are damning. He knows what he was saying. He knows too much, Ahwoi knows what’s in his head. In another country, security agencies would have come to arrest him,” Owusu-Bempah said to Nana Yaa Brefo and JB on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa morning show Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

The NPP Deputy Communications Director indicated further that if he “decides to talk about the death of the late President, the NDC party will forever be tarnished with no hope of survival” as he has information from sources to prove this allegations.

Background

A stalwart of the NDC, Kwesi Ahwoi alluded to the unforeseen circumstances that led to John Mahama’s ascension to the presidency, following the demise of late former President J.E. A. Mills.

Ahwoi’s remarks, captured in a widely circulated video, elicited mixed reactions among the attendees.

“John Mahama was not ready to be President at the time but nature schemed things in such a way that President Mills had to give way to John Mahama.

“Anything can happen, so, Naana, be ever prepared, as your motto says. Anything can happen and you can become the President of the Republic of Ghana, ” he advised.
