Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), has won the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairmanship election, defeating his closest contender, Kwabena Kokofu, by a wide margin.
According to certified results from the Electoral Commission, COKA polled 658 votes, representing a commanding lead over Henry Kwabena Kokofu, who secured 269 votes.
The election, which attracted 1,022 delegates, was keenly contested as the two leading candidates sought to take charge of the party’s affairs in the Ashanti Region.
COKA’s victory gives him a strong mandate to lead the party’s regional structures at a time when the NPP is seeking to strengthen its grassroots organisation, rebuild unity and position itself for future electoral contests.
The margin of victory was particularly significant, with COKA obtaining more than twice the votes secured by Kokofu.
COKA, entered the contest with considerable experience within the party’s regional and grassroots structures. His return to the regional chairmanship is expected to place renewed emphasis on party mobilisation, unity and organisational strengthening.
The Ashanti Region remains a critical stronghold for the NPP, making the regional chairmanship one of the most closely watched positions in the party’s internal elections.
The outcome is therefore expected to have implications for the party’s strategy, grassroots mobilisation and preparations for the next electoral cycle.
Dr Keskine Owusu Poku won the Ashanti Regional Communications Officer with 588 votes, Razak Abubakar won Nasara with 335 votes, Martín Ameyaw won the Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer with 683 votes.
Others include Victoria Owusu who won the Ashanti Regional women’s organizer with 491 votes, Denis Kwakwa won the Regional Organizer with 527 votes, Helena Mensah won the Treasurer with 653 votes, Kingsley Owusu Kyeretwie won Deputy Secretary with 701 voted, Francis Adomako won Regional Secretary with 492 votes, Aikins Addai Poku won 2nd regional vice chairman with 587 votes with Bernard Amofa Jantuah winning the first vice chairman with 465 votes.
Following his victory, the new Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), said the election is over.
He called on all party members to unite and begin preparations for the 2028 elections.
He expressed his appreciation to those who supported his campaign and to set the tone for what he described as the beginning of serious work ahead.
He acknowledged the delegates who place their confidence in him, while directing his message at the broader party membership.
“By the grace of God, I am now the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP. I am deeply grateful to the delegates, supporters, and everyone who believed in me. The work begins now- together, let us unite, rebuild, and prepare the NPP for victory in 2028”, he said.
He touched on his intention to prioritize cohesion within the party, which has historically been a stronghold for the NPP.
The victors were declared winner by the Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission.
