Coventry City striker Brandon Thomas-Asante has been handed a starting role by Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against La Cote d’Ivoire.
Thomas-Asante was one of the many players handed late call-up by the coach due to the mass withdrawals that hit the team.
Despite the absenteeism, Ghana boast of enough quality given the starting line-up for Thursday night’s tie.
In post is St. Gallen goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi, who keeps his place from the last game played at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Playing in front of him are center backs Jerome Opoku and Alexander Djiku, who returns to the fold not only to defend his country but also as captain for the game at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake.
Kojo Oppong Peprah, who is a current player of Djiku’s former club Fenerbahce, and FC Koln player Gideon Mensah will defend from the wings.
Kwesi Sibo and Caleb Yirenkyi also keep their places in midfield but will be joined by Christopher Bonsu Baah, Ernest Nuamah and Abdul-Fatawu Issahaku with Thomas-Asante leading the attack.
Kick-off is 7:00pm.
