Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahir (K.T.) Hammond has described as “nonsense”, the Speaker of Parliament’s position that “Parliament is a house with its own rules.”
He says the Supreme Court has given orders which are supposed to be obeyed by the Speaker, rather than saying the House has its own rules.
Following the second indefinite adjournment of the House by the Speaker, K.T. Hammond, speaking to the media indicated that “the Supreme Court has spoken, the Speaker is supposed to get the House in order” for the Members to do what they are supposed to do.
He explained that the Speaker’s position of saying he uses the Standing Orders of Parliament instead of the constitution does not make sense.
His comments arise from the second adjournment of the House by the Speaker when the NPP MPs boycotted sitting again, amid lack of business for the House to deliberate on.

But according to K.T. Hammond, the apex court has ruled to stay the ruling of the Speaker and expected him to announce to the House that things have been reset to the status quo.
He indicated that the ruling of the Supreme Court does not require any interpretation from Members of Parliament, assuring the public that the NPP MPs will cite the Speaker for contempt.
