At Wassa Akropong in the Amenfi East municipality of the West region, a number of youth numbering up to about a thousand, stormed the municipal police command to demand justice for their colleague who died as a result of police gunshot.

The deceased, 30-year-old Kofi Agyei, according to reports, was shot by the police after he refused to stop his vehicle whilst driving in town with his friends.

Onua Online’s sources has it that the Wassa Akropong enclave has been inundated with armed robbery with traders being robbed of their monies from time to time, making the police up their game to help curb the menace.

During one of their patrols, the peace enforcement officers spotted an oncoming vehicle and signaled it to stop. But the driver —deceased Kofi Agyei- refused to stop, making the officers fire some gunshots, hitting him on the waist.

He was rushed to the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital and later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi where he was later pronounced dead.

The report of Kofi’s death infuriated the youth who stormed the police station to attack the officers for killing their colleague.

The police, who couldn’t contain the pressure from the youth called for reinforcement to secure themselves.

His body has since been deposited at the morgue with investigations ongoing.
