Residents of the Western North region have welcomed the opening of a new Passport Application Centre (PAC) in Sefwi-Wiawso, the regional capital, describing it as a major relief after years of hardship in accessing passport services.

For many years, acquiring a Ghanaian passport was a difficult and costly experience for residents of the region. Applicants were often forced to travel more than 400 kilometres to Accra, enduring long journeys, extended queues, and additional expenses.

The commissioning of the Sefwi-Wiawso Passport Application Centre has now brought passport services closer to the people, easing the burden on students, business owners, and families who previously had to travel to Takoradi, Kumasi, or Accra to complete the process.

Residents have expressed excitement and gratitude, noting that the new office will save time and money while opening doors to international travel, education, and business opportunities.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, James Gyakye Quayson, emphasised that efficient service delivery remains a key pillar of the government’s resetting agenda.

He stressed that officers posted to the centre are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. He urged staff to treat applicants with respect and dignity, as they would be members of their own families, and advised the public to avoid engaging the services of middlemen.

The Western North Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum, assured residents of his commitment to safeguarding the facility and ensuring its smooth operation. He said his office would work closely with relevant stakeholders to promote professionalism, efficiency, and transparency at the centre.

He further called on officers of the Ghana Immigration Service and other public servants to discharge their duties fairly and professionally, reminding them that they serve as the face of the state to the average Ghanaian.

The opening of the Sefwi-Wiawso Passport Application Centre marks a significant step towards decentralising passport services and improving public access in the Western North region.
