The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has imposed a fine of GH¢100,000 on relegated Ghana Premier League side Real Tamale United (RTU) FC.
Some five officials have also been banned one year each from all football-related activities in the country for the Matchday 28 gaffe in the 2023/24 League.
The Tamale-based side fielded unregistered players in their Matchday 28 game – an outstanding one – against Dreams FC at the Theater of Dreams in Dawu.
According to the Committee, the behaviour of RTU, who failed to honour their final match, brings the game into disrepute contrary to Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations.
In its ruling, the Committee noted that RTU intentionally deceived the match officials by using unregistered players to impersonate officially registered players of the club.
The club is said to have pleaded guilty to the charges and pleaded for leniency.
In their statement of defence, RTU explained that they were in a difficult situation and the officials thought their actions on the day were intended to alleviate an already bad situation of the club as their registered players refused to make the trip.
Aside fining the club for misconduct, thef officials who led the team to the said match were handed a one-year ban each from all football-related activities.
This takes immediate effect.
The officials are Iddi Manzah Alhassan, Abdul-Samed Iddrisu, Abdul-Gafaru Salifu, Tanko Jentumah and Sylvester Yaw Apanka.
