Hearts of Oak have moved up to second on the Ghana Premier League standings following a 2-0 win at Berekum Chelsea on Sunday.
It was a cagey encounter at the Golden City Park as the Phobians came up against their former coach Samuel Boadu, who led them to their last title.
After a goalless first half, striker Hamza Issah scored from close range in the 62nd minute to put the visitors in the lead.
The Blues were reduced to 10 men after goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi, a former Hearts of Oak player, was red-carded for handling the ball outside his penalty area.
Since Samuel Boadu had exhausted his substitutions at the time of the incident, defender Kennedy Kofi Mensah had to take up the role of keeping the post.
He did this job superbly until the 95th minute when he failed to clear his lines for Mawuli Wayo to double the lead for the Phobians.
The win takes Hearts of Oak to second ahead of their home game against champions Bibiani Goldstars SC.
They are currently just a point behind leaders Medeama SC, who were held to a 1-1 draw at home by FC Samartex.
