Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has expressed his ambition to continue to play for the Ghana senior national team following an impressive performance in Accra Hearts of Oak’s 1-0 victory over rivals Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League Super Clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper was in outstanding form, producing a series of crucial saves to deny Kotoko and preserve his side’s narrow lead in front of a packed crowd and key football stakeholders.
Speaking after the match, Asare admitted that the presence of the Black Stars technical team in the stands served as a major source of motivation.
“It’s a big motivation because they are watching us closely. My dream is to play for the national team, and I believe my performance today was good. I hope they continue to monitor me and see what I can do,” he said.
The 33-year-old also extended his appreciation to officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for attending the fixture, noting that their presence added extra intensity and importance to the game.
“I want to thank the GFA officials for coming to watch this match. It makes the game more exciting,” Asare added.
Beyond personal ambitions, the goalkeeper was full of praise for the supporters of both clubs, highlighting the rare atmosphere created at the stadium.
“I also want to thank the fans—both Kotoko and Hearts of Oak fans—for coming out in their numbers. We don’t often see such a large crowd for league matches, but today they really showed up, especially for the second round. I’m very grateful to everyone.”

Asare’s commanding performance further strengthens his growing reputation as one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Ghana Premier League and reinforces calls for his inclusion in future Black Stars call-ups, as he continues to play a key role in Hearts of Oak’s campaign.
