Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, has disclosed that Ghana’s economic position has seen a significant improvement under President John Dramani Mahama.
He says Ghana, which used to be the 10th richest country in Africa, has moved two places up by currently occupying the 8th position, just a year after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government took over.
Within the period, Ghana has had its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) exceeding GH¢100 billion.
According to the Minister, the development is evidence of renewed economic direction and stability, crediting President Mahama’s decisive leadership and prudent economic management for the feat.
Speaking on Citi FM on Sunday, February 22, 2026, Dr. Hassan Pelpuo indicated that the first year of President Mahama has delivered measurable progress.
“This government is a committed government. The President has shown that leadership can make a big difference. With this past year, Ghana can be different altogether. We were in 10th place among rich countries.
“After one year of administration, good governance and committed leadership, we shot up to the 8th position, with a GDP that is above GH¢100 billion,” he stated.
He added that government aims at creating more jobs with labour policies which will be central to sustaining growth and improving standards of living across the country to consolidate the gains made so far.
