The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with a series of robbery incidents in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region, bringing some relief to residents following weeks of heightened insecurity.

According to a police press release, signed by the Upper West Regional commander, DCOP. Francis Yiribaare, the suspects identified as Iddrisu Sidibey (19), Abdulai Bandey (20), and Suleman Issah Zibrim (23) were involved in two separate attacks on civilians in late February and early March 2026.

The first incident occurred on February 28 between Gadi and Chogsia communities, where the suspects reportedly attacked and robbed a teacher, Thomas Dormatey, of his mobile phone and GH¢2,600 after shooting him in the leg.

In a similar attack on March 8, another victim, Issah Ibrahim, was robbed of his phone and GH¢2,750 at the same location while returning from Jaglu community at about 7:30 p.m.

Police say the suspects typically operated while masked and armed with firearms and machetes, ambushing victims from nearby bushes.

Following intelligence-led operations, the suspects were arrested at Chogsia and later identified by their victims. The release has it that a search conducted during the arrest led to the retrieval of two cutlasses and four mobile phones believed to have been stolen.

Further investigations led to the arrest of a fourth suspect, Abdul Rahman Abdulai, at Gojiyiri near Wechiau.

He is believed to have supplied the firearm used in the robberies and subsequently led police to its recovery from a nearby bush. Two additional accomplices, identified only as Adil and Sambo, remain at large and are currently being pursued by authorities.

The suspects have since been arraigned before the Wa District Magistrate Court and remanded into custody. They are expected to reappear in court on March 26, 2026.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to ensuring safety and security across the region and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
