Director of Communications for the United Party (UP), Solomon Owusu, has said Ghanaians will hand over power to the United Party in the 2028 general elections to chart a new path for the State.

His comment follows the election of new national executives by the oppositi on New Patriotic Party (NPP), including a Women’s Organiser whose promise, he says, was to provide pepper spray to women.

Owusu says electing such persons shows the NPP has lost substance and does not represent a credible alternative, describing the winner as not a gem.

Speaking on the BigIssue segment on the NewDay morning show on TV3 Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Owusu indicated that the NPP cannot erase its abysmal record with the new executives.

“Ghana will be handed over to the United Party [in 2028] so that we come and chart a new path because if you go and elect a Women’s Organiser whose promise is to provide pepper spray to all [women] and you say you’ve elected a gem, I mean how?” he questioned.

He said the United Party does not envy the NPP, insisting that even a change in leadership will not erase the legacy of the previous administration.

“I don’t envy the NPP. Even if they were to bring Jesus Christ to lead the party it will not erase from our minds that Ken Ofori-Atta has run away from this country,” he stated.

“The only time that it will make sense that any Ghanaian will think about the NPP is when Ken Ofori-Atta returns. How is it going to erase from our minds that, the [National Cathedral] hole is still there. It has not been covered,” he added.
