The leaked audio tape implicating some top police officers plotting the ousting of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has been condemned by many.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has directed that a 7-member Committee be set to probe the leaked audio recording.

Contents of the audio indicate that the IGP, if not changed, would be so professional and hinder the ruling government from scheming the electoral processes to win the 2024 polls.

But youth activist and social commentator, Ivan Innocent Kyei, has said the rate at which partisan politics has taken centre stage in sensitive state institutions is nauseating.

He believes the miscreants behind the audio tape are still in the Police Service and had the guts to discuss such plan because of how culprits of the Ayawaso West Wuogon (AWW) by-election disturbances were treated.

According to him, if those guilty of the mayhem, as concluded by the Justice Emile Short Committee, were punished and ousted from the service, it would have served as a deterrent to those who got recruited through party affiliation.

But the report which was shielded, he said, has given the leeway to party boys within the service to always backbite their superiors to get promotion.

He was speaking on Onua TV’s Maakye with Captain Smart on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
