Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has ordered contractors working on Phase One of the Suame Interchange project to accelerate construction and explore measures to shorten the project timeline.
He has expressed concern over the pace of work, noting that only about five per cent of the interchange itself has been completed, while the current completion target of 2028 remains too far.
Mr. Agbodza, speaking during an inspection of the project on Tuesday, September 30, 2026, called for a crash programme to fast-track critical aspects of the work.
“I can see that we are just 5 percent of the interchange itself. I can understand the reasons for the delay, the rescoping and everything, but now we know what we want to do,” he said.
He urged the contractor and other stakeholders to coordinate their efforts and work simultaneously where possible.
“Let’s speed up. 2028 is too far for us to do this, so let’s rush some of the things and see what we can do quickly,” he stated.
Mr. Agbodza acknowledged some progress on other components of the project but said the interchange remains the biggest concern.
“I think the speed from where we were the last time is good progress. We are on schedule to hand over that one but everybody knows the biggest problem is the interchange,” he added.
