The Dompim-Pepesa chief, Nana Nyomwah Panyin IV has alleged that those doing illegal mining, aka galamsey in the Tarkwa Nsuaem municipality are charged GH₵100,000.00 by the assembly to grant access to the forest.

The chief who was speaking with Captain Smart on Wednesday said the municipality goes round to invite those doing galamsey to the assembly and demand that ransom to allow them carry on with their activities.

He also alleged that the assembly themselves ask foreigners engaging in the menace their local counterparts and refer persons from their camp to such foreigners.

Even though the MCE, Benjamin Kesse was on the line when the chief made the allegation, he didn’t dispute.
