Ghana Premier League side Hearts of Oak have announced their withdrawal from the upcoming Eko International Tournament scheduled for Lagos, Nigeria.

This is due to the change in the tournament schedule by the organisers.

“Originally scheduled for July 6-13, the tournament was later rescheduled to July 13-20,” Hearts of Oak pointed out in a statement on Tuesday, July 8.

“Unfortunately, this changes clashes with our carefully planned rest and recovery period for the players, which is crucial before we kick off our pre-season preparations.”

The club, therefore, indicated that after discussions between management and the technical team, the decision was taken in order “to protect the well-being of our squad”.

Hearts of Oak, consequently, apologised to the organisers and fans for the “difficult” decision.

Separately, the club has announced that it will go on break from Wednesday, July 9 and return later in the month.
