Connect FM News has obtained harrowing CCTV footage capturing the chilling moment a gang of armed robbers stormed a gold dealership at Mpohor on Saturday evening, August 16, 2025.

The footage shows five masked men — one wielding an assault rifle, another clutching a pistol — dragging terrified victims into the Paa Nyame Gold Dealership. Moments later, two more accomplices join, forcing yet another man inside.

Once in, the gang tears through the office with ruthless precision. Filing cabinets and storage closets are ripped open as the robbers scoop up cash and what is later confirmed to be gold worth thousands of pounds.

Throughout the ordeal, three young men, believed to be staff or associates of the shop, are held hostage at gunpoint — their helpless bodies pinned to the floor under the unblinking gaze of the weapons trained on them.

In a final act of intimidation, one assailant repeatedly strikes a victim with the blunt side of a machete.

According to the time stamp on the CCTV, the robbery spanned a chilling 15 minutes — from 18:58 to 19:13 — long enough to strip the premises, yet swift enough to vanish before help arrived.

Managers of the dealership say the robbers escaped with ₵80,000 in cash and around 100 pounds of gold. In a statement, they confirmed the case has been reported to the police, who have launched an investigation. They are urging anyone with information to come forward, offering a reward for leads that could result in the capture of the gang.

The brazen attack has left the Mpohor township gripped with fear. Residents and shopkeepers living and working near the scene describe being haunted by the robbery and the thought of armed men operating so freely in their community. For many, the violence has shattered their sense of safety in what was once a quiet trading town.

This is not an isolated case. Just weeks earlier, on July 30, armed men stormed a gold-buying shop at Teleku-Bokazo in the Ellembelle municipality, unleashing gunfire and machete attacks that left workers injured.

Police said one suspect was gunned down and another arrested in that incident, but several accomplices remain at large. That attack, like the Mpohor raid, has deepened fears of a growing wave of organised violence targeting gold dealerships across the Western region.

Local authorities warn that unless the gangs are stopped, the lucrative gold trade — the lifeblood of many communities — risks becoming a magnet for lawlessness, with ordinary residents left to live under the shadow of fear.
