Two individuals, Mumuni Iddrisu and Alhassan Braimah, have been sentenced to ten years imprisonment each for possession of restricted drugs in the North East Region.
They have also been fined GHC60,000, according to a police press release dated September 27.
The Nalerigu Circuit Court found them guilty of conspiracy to commit crime and possession of restricted drugs without lawful authority.

The convictions stem from an arrest made on September 18, 2025, at Gbintiri near Nalerigu, where police and the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) officials apprehended six individuals in possession of 1,195 boxes of tramadol hydrochloride 120mg, a restricted drug.

Further investigation revealed that Iddrisu and Braimah possessed 100 boxes of tramadol and concealed over 4,500 packs of the drug in 25 five-liter yellow gallons.
While Iddrisu and Braimah were convicted, the other four initially arrested-Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Yakubu, and Moses Ayorik were discharged due to lack of evidence linking them to the crime.

The police have commended the community, particularly the Nalerigu Youth Association (NAYA), for their support in the arrests and prosecution. They have also issued a warning to others involved in the illicit drug trade in the region, stating that they will face the full force of the law.
