Hearts of Oak and Heart of Lions played a goalless draw in their Matchday 5 fixture on Monday to keep their unbeaten run to the start of the 2025/26 season.
The game was rescheduled to kick off late due to the Black Stars’ final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium.
As a result, almost the entire Technical Team of the Black Stars, led by Otto Addo, was at the stadium to watch the game.
The Kpando-based side could have gone top of the Ghana Premier League with a win from the game while Mas-Ud Didi Dramani’s side, who have won only twice so far, could have returned to the Top 4 at par with their opponents.
However, the Phobians had to only cement their record of not having conceded so far in the season with the result as well as walking away with a point.
With the points shared, Heart of Lions moved within one point of leaders Medeama SC while Hearts of Oak climbed back up but to 5th though same on points – 9 – with fourth-placed FC Samartex.
In the post-match interview, Coach Bashir Hayford said he is happy with the point as he has one more away match to play.
For him, picking a point on the road is enough “but we will do the needful at home”.
His opposite number, Didi Dramani, expressed worry about his side’s inability to score and stressed every coach will be worried by this.
“But it is still work in progress and we hope to transition to that phase [of converting].”
The Phobians will travel to Berekum to face former manager Samuel Boadu’s side Berekum Chelsea while Heart of Lions meet champions Bibiani Goldstars SC next at the DUN’s Park.
