The Ghana Navy has intercepted a canoe carrying 37 sacks of suspected Indian hemp during a maritime operation near Ada in the Greater Accra Region.

According to a press release issued by the Ghana Armed Forces, the interception took place on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Goi, south of Sege, following a targeted operation based on credible intelligence.

Operatives from the Navy’s Special Boat Squadron tracked and pursued the canoe as it attempted to beach. However, the suspects reportedly fled upon sighting the security personnel, abandoning both the vessel and its contents.

A subsequent search uncovered 37 sacks of compressed substances suspected to be Indian hemp. Preliminary assessment by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) indicated that each sack contained approximately 70 parcels.

Security personnel also retrieved additional items from the canoe, including two gallons of premix fuel, five empty gallons, and an outboard motor.

The seized items, along with the canoe, have been handed over to NACOC for further investigation and action.

The Ghana Navy reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the country’s territorial waters and combating illicit activities along the coast, assuring the public of continued vigilance in protecting national security interests.
