DR Congo’s Jean-Jacques Ndala Ngambo has been appointed as the center referee for the Black Stars’ opening game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which begins later Saturday in La Côte d’Ivoire.

The four-time champions begin their campaign for a fifth title, turning out to be a holy grail, on Sunday, January 14 at the Félix Houphouët Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

They take on the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde.

The center referee was born on 14 June, 1987.

He was one of eight African referees at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Coincidentally, he refereed Ghana’s AFCON 2023 qualifier against Angola. The Black Stars won 1-0.

He is expected to be assisted by compatriots Olivier Kabene Safari and Nabina Blaise Sebutu as Assistant 1 and Assistant 2 respectively.

Kick-off is at 2000GMT.
